The bias in the film is prominent in its location. The documentary is about life at war in Afghanistan, but it only shows soldiers in the Korangal Valley. They acknowledge this by saying that it is one of the most dangerous postings in Afghanistan and one of the most dangerous postings in the whole American army. There is very little mention of the other places that Americans are deployed. Saying that it is the most dangerous place to deploy is unfair because there is an inherent risk when you are deployed in the military.
There is also a bias towards the American soldiers. We only hear about the local population when something happens. It is usually when the American army is trying to cooperate with them or when they do something that harms or upsets them. These people are also living through this war and it is unfair to implicate them in crimes just because they were born in or live in Afghanistan. They are mostly innocent. Their day to day lives are likely just as tough as the soldiers’ lives during deployment, but they do not get to leave. It’s a shame that the documentary did not get their perspective unless there was an incident.
